RRB JE CEN 04/2026 Recruitment 2026 – Indicative Notice Out for 4098 Junior Engineer, DMS & CMA Posts

The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), under the Ministry of Railways, have issued an Indicative Notice under Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) No. 04/2026 for recruitment to Junior Engineer, Depot Material Superintendent and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant posts. Roughly 4,098 vacancies are expected across all RRBs. This is worth saying plainly up front: it is not the detailed notification. It exists purely so candidates can start pulling together certificates and getting their Aadhaar details in order before the full CEN — with actual post-wise vacancies, eligibility and the application link — is published separately.

What “Indicative Notice” Actually Means

RRB uses this two-step format for large technical recruitments to give candidates a head start. The indicative notice, released on 25 July 2026, confirms that a CEN is coming, states the approximate combined vacancy figure and pay level, and sets a tentative window for applications — but it deliberately withholds the post-wise, department-wise and RRB-wise vacancy breakup, along with the detailed eligibility annexure. Those will only appear in the detailed CEN No. 04/2026, published on the common RRB website and each zonal RRB’s own site, along with any corrigendum issued afterward. Don’t take vacancy or eligibility numbers from any source claiming to have the “full breakup” already — at this stage, no one outside the RRBs has it.

What You Can Prepare Now

A few things from the indicative notice are worth acting on before the detailed CEN drops:

  • Aadhaar-certificate match: the notice specifically flags that your name and date of birth in Aadhaar must match 100% with your Class 10 pass certificate. Mismatches trigger detailed scrutiny and delay for non-Aadhaar-verified applications, so fix this now rather than during the application window.
  • Biometric update: Aadhaar should carry your latest photo and latest fingerprint/iris biometrics before you fill the online application.
  • Engineering documents: JE posts generally call for a Diploma or Degree in Engineering in the relevant discipline; DMS typically asks for a Diploma in Engineering in any discipline; CMA has historically required a B.Sc-level qualification with relevant subjects. Treat these as the pattern from past RRB JE cycles, not confirmed figures for CEN 04/2026 — the exact qualification for each post and department will be listed in Annexure-A of the detailed CEN.

Eligibility Indicated So Far

Age Limit

18 to 33 years as on 1 January 2027. Age relaxation for reserved categories will be detailed in the full CEN, following the Railways’ standard relaxation norms (typically 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC-NCL, and additional relaxation for PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates in past cycles).

Medical Standards

Medical fitness requirements are referenced in the indicative notice as “per Annexure-A of the detailed CEN” and will vary by post — JE, DMS and CMA roles typically carry different medical standards depending on the physical demands of the role.
