About the Research Project

Candidates are advised to understand the study before the interview, because a panel drawn from Community & Family Medicine will expect it. The project is an open-label randomised controlled parallel-arm clinical study examining the efficacy, safety and tolerability of an Ayurveda regimen used as an adjunct to anti-tuberculosis treatment (ATT), together with macronutrient supplementation, on body weight, nutritional outcomes and quality of life in adults with newly diagnosed drug-sensitive NAAT-positive pulmonary tuberculosis.

In plain terms, this is nutrition and integrative medicine research layered on top of standard TB treatment, not a substitute for it. The work involves patient recruitment, randomisation, follow-up over time and outcome measurement, which explains the mix of roles advertised. One medical scientist, one Ayurveda fellow, one social worker for field and community coordination, one laboratory technician and one nurse. Each role maps to a specific function in a trial workflow.

Eligibility Criteria by Post

Post 1: Project Research Scientist-I (Medical)

Essential: MBBS, MVSc or BDS from a recognised university.

Other considerations that shape shortlisting:

  • Preference for candidates with previous research experience in public health programmes or ICMR, DST or DBT projects
  • Experience of working in educational settings and with multidisciplinary teams
  • Coordinating skills, and skills in drafting and editing scientific documents, official and technical reports, and publications in peer reviewed journals
  • Good oral and written communication in English or Assamese

This is the senior role in the team at ₹80,400 a month inclusive of HRA, and the expectations reflect that. If you hold an MBBS with no prior trial exposure, the drafting and coordination points are where you will be tested.

Post 2: Senior Research Fellow (Ayurveda)

Essential: BAMS (Ayurvedacharya) from any recognised university, stated as preferred, together with valid registration with the relevant state board or council, the Central Council, or NCISM.

Other considerations: preference for higher qualification or previous research experience in public health programmes or ICMR, DST or DBT projects; working knowledge of computer applications; scientific drafting and editing skills; and good communication in English or Assamese.

Arrange the registration certificate now if it is not immediately to hand. It is an essential requirement and not something you can undertake to produce later.

Post 3: Project Technical Support (III) MSW

Essential: Master’s in Social Work from a recognised university, plus three years of experience in the relevant subject.

Other considerations: experience of working in educational settings and with multidisciplinary teams, coordinating skills, and good communication in English or Assamese.

Post 4: Project Nurse III

Essential: either of the following.

  • B.Sc. Nursing from a recognised university with three years of work experience in the relevant field and valid registration with any State Nursing Council, or
  • M.Sc. Nursing from a recognised university with valid registration with any State Nursing Council

Note the trade-off in that clause. An M.Sc. Nursing holder needs registration alone, with no experience requirement stated, while a B.Sc. Nursing holder needs three years of relevant experience. Freshers with an M.Sc. Nursing degree are therefore eligible here, which is worth knowing.

Post 5: Project Technical Support-I (Lab Technician)

Essential: Class 10 plus a diploma in MLT, DMLT or ITI from a recognised institution, with two years of experience in the relevant subject or field.

This is the only post with an upper age limit of 28 years rather than 35, and the lowest qualification bar in the advertisement.

Across every post, experience is counted from the date of completion of the minimum essential educational qualification. Time worked before you finished the qualifying degree does not count.

Terms and Conditions Worth Reading Twice

Project positions carry conditions that differ materially from regular institute posts. The main ones are set out below.

  • Engagement is normally for 12 months or less depending on project tenure. Continuation depends on performance evaluation, project tenure, availability of funds, functional requirement and approval of the competent authority.
  • If performance is not found satisfactory by the Principal Investigator, the appointment can be terminated at any time without prior notice or compensation.
  • Emoluments may vary according to the sanction of the funding agency.
  • No TA or DA is paid for attending the interview. Candidates arrange their own transport and accommodation.
  • Staff are normally posted at the study site but may be posted to other sites in the interest of the research work.
  • There is no claim to a regular post in ICMR, AIIMS Guwahati or any other government organisation, and project time with or without breaks confers no right to transfer, absorption or regularisation.
  • No provident fund, Leave Travel Concession, medical claim or accommodation is provided, as the posts are purely temporary.
  • Candidates already working against regular or permanent government posts are not eligible to apply.
  • Candidates already employed must submit an NOC from their employer at the interview or written test, failing which they will not be permitted to appear.
  • Selected candidates must join within 15 days of the declaration of results.
  • Leave is governed by CCRAS guidelines. Resignation requires one month’s notice or one month’s remuneration in lieu, subject to approval by the Principal Investigator.
  • Canvassing or bringing influence in any form is treated as a disqualification and leads to debarment.
  • Meeting the essential qualification does not guarantee shortlisting or selection. If applications are numerous, the appointing authority may adopt higher shortlisting criteria.
  • No request for a change of interview date is entertained.
