Eligibility
Qualification
A full-time regular Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology in the relevant notified discipline, with the prescribed minimum aggregate marks. HAL computes the aggregate by adding total marks obtained across all semesters or years and dividing by the total maximum marks — not by taking the final-year percentage. CGPA must be converted per your university’s official formula. Check the exact minimum percentage for your category in the notification PDF before applying.
Age Limit
28 years as on 14 August 2026 for UR and EWS candidates, with relaxation for SC/ST, OBC-NCL, PwBD, Jammu & Kashmir domiciled candidates and Ex-Servicemen as per Government of India norms.
Selection Process
- Online Computer Based Test — 160 multiple-choice questions over 2 hours 30 minutes, covering General Awareness, English & Reasoning, and the concerned engineering discipline. You can choose Hindi or English at the time of applying.
- Personal Interview at Bengaluru. Candidates clearing the test are shortlisted discipline-wise and category-wise.
- Document verification and medical examination before appointment.
Final merit weights the written test at 85% and the interview at 15%. In practice this means the CBT decides almost everything — the interview can shift your position, but it will not rescue a weak test score.
Stipend, Pay and Posting
Selected candidates undergo a 52-week training programme combining theoretical modules with on-the-job training at various locations. During training, trainees draw a stipend comprising a Basic Pay of ₹50,000, plus Variable Dearness Allowance and Canteen Allowance. Bachelor accommodation is admissible during training as per company rules.
On successful completion, trainees are absorbed as Engineers in the Grade-II scale of ₹50,000 – ₹1,60,000, with Variable DA, perks under the Cafeteria system, company accommodation or HRA, Performance Related Pay, medical facilities, provident fund, gratuity and other superannuation benefits.
Posting can be at any of HAL’s Production, Overhaul or Service Divisions, Research & Design Centres or offices, decided by company requirement. Your location is fixed before joining, not chosen by you.
Application Fee
A fee applies to General, OBC-NCL and EWS candidates, with exemption for SC, ST and PwBD candidates. Confirm the exact amount and the full exemption list in the notification PDF — reporting on the exemptions has varied. Non-payment of the fee leaves the application incomplete and it will be rejected.
