AMU Recruitment 2026 – Apply Online for 11 Assistant Professor Posts

Aligarh Muslim University’s Centre for Distance and Online Education is hiring eleven contractual Assistant Professors across four subjects. The advertisement, numbered 02/2026-27/CDOE, is dated 30 July 2026.

Subject Posts Interview slot on 27 August
Political Science 03 10:30 am
History 03 2:30 pm
Economics 03 4:00 pm
Library and Information Science 02 12:30 pm

Salary is a fixed ₹40,000 a month. The application fee is ₹500.

Two deadlines, and both are compulsory

This is the detail that decides most applications. Filling the online form is only half of it.

The form must be completed by 6 August 2026 on the AMU Careers Portal at careers.amuonline.ac.in, and the fee paid online. After that, a printed copy of the application, together with self-attested documents, has to physically reach the CDOE office at Aligarh Muslim University by 4:00 pm on 13 August 2026.

Applications that arrive late, or arrive without the supporting documents, are summarily rejected. The University has stated it will not be responsible for late receipt or non-receipt. Post it early, and post it in a way you can track.

Qualifying for the post

There are two routes and you need only one of them.

Route A: Master’s plus NET

A Master’s degree with 55% marks, or the equivalent grade on a point scale, in the concerned subject, from an Indian university or an accredited foreign one. The relevant subjects are:

  • Political Science: Public Administration and allied subjects such as Human Rights, International Relations, Politics or Studies
  • History: History
  • Economics: Economics
  • Library and Information Science: Library and Information Science

Alongside that, NET conducted by UGC or CSIR, or an accredited equivalent such as SLET or SET. A Ph.D. awarded under the UGC Regulations of 2009 or 2016 exempts you from NET.

Candidates who registered for a Ph.D. before 11 July 2009 fall under the older rules and are also exempt, but only if all five of the following hold: the Ph.D. was awarded in regular mode, the thesis was examined by at least two external examiners, an open viva-voce was held, two papers from the work were published with at least one in a refereed journal, and two papers were presented at conferences or seminars backed by UGC, ICSSR, CSIR or a similar body. Your Registrar or Controller of Examination has to certify all of it.

Where UGC, CSIR or an accredited body does not conduct NET or SLET/SET for a discipline, the requirement falls away.

Route B: A Ph.D. from a top-500 foreign university

A doctorate from a foreign university or institution ranked in the top 500 of the World University Rankings, at any point in time, by QS, Times Higher Education, or the Academic Ranking of World Universities from Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Relaxation

Five percent at both Bachelor’s and Master’s level for SC, ST and OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates, and for Differently-Abled candidates across the recognised categories: blindness and low vision; deaf and hard of hearing; locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy; autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness; and multiple disabilities including deaf-blindness. It applies to qualifying marks, including grace mark procedures.

What has to be in the envelope

Self-attested copies of every one of these. If any is missing, the form is rejected outright.

  1. High School certificate from a recognised board
  2. Graduation mark-sheet and degree
  3. Post-Graduation mark-sheet and degree
  4. NET, JRF, SLET/SET or CSIR certificate, as applicable
  5. M.Phil or Ph.D. degree, where applicable
  6. Experience certificates, where applicable

Applicants from a Madrasa background may submit a certificate equivalent to High School or Graduation, provided it comes from Madaris or an institution the University recognises.

Interview day

Every interview happens on Thursday, 27 August 2026, in the office of the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, AMU Aligarh. Report at least thirty minutes before your slot.

Two things to plan around. No interview letter will be sent to anyone. The list of eligible candidates goes up on the CDOE notice board at cdoeamu.ac.in/notice-board and checking it is your job. And no travel allowance is paid, so the trip to Aligarh is on you.

What you are signing up for

The appointment is purely temporary and runs till the end of Academic Session 2026-27. The advertisement states plainly that it is liable to termination at any time, without notice and without any reason being given. The ₹40,000 is fixed, with no pay scale or increment attached.

For a candidate wanting UGC-scale teaching experience on a CV, that may still be worth it. For anyone treating it as a step into a permanent AMU post, the wording does not support that reading.

The notification is signed by Prof. Ekram Khan, Director, CDOE. The full PDF is available here.

Also open to postgraduates

STPI is recruiting nine Junior Hindi Translators at Pay Matrix Level 6, a permanent central government post with a two-year probation, open until 7 September. A longer runway and considerably better terms than a session-length contract.

Questions candidates are asking

I filled the online form. Do I still need to post the hard copy?

Yes. The printed application with self-attested documents must reach CDOE by 4:00 pm on 13 August. Without it the online form counts for nothing.

I have a Ph.D. but no NET. Can I apply?

Yes, if the Ph.D. was awarded in line with the UGC Regulations of 2009 or 2016. If you registered before 11 July 2009, check the five conditions listed above and get them certified.

When will I get my interview call letter?

You will not. Eligible candidates are listed on the CDOE notice board online, and no separate letter is issued.

Is my Master’s in International Relations acceptable for Political Science?

The advertisement names International Relations among the allied subjects for Political Science, so yes.

What is the fee and how is it paid?

₹500, paid online through the AMU Careers Portal before you print the application.

Will travel to Aligarh be reimbursed?

No. TA and DA are not paid.

Does the job continue after 2026-27?

The appointment is temporary till the end of that session and can be terminated earlier without notice.
