AIIMS Kalyani Junior Resident Recruitment 2026 – Apply Online for 84 Posts

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Kalyani, West Bengal, has issued Notice No. 1650/E-12015/25/26-(SR/T/JR) dated 31 July 2026 for the engagement of 84 Junior Residents (Non-Academic) across various departments on a tenure basis. Online registration closes on 24 August 2026 at 5:00 PM, and the Written Examination is tentatively fixed for 8 September 2026.

One structural point decides whether you are eligible at all, and it sits in the first block of the notice rather than in the terms and conditions. This is a six month term, and candidates who have already completed two terms of Junior Residency anywhere, at AIIMS or outside, are not considered. If you are a doctor who has been picking up short residency stints since internship, count your terms before you pay the demand draft.

Category-Wise Vacancy Distribution

The three PwBD seats are horizontal, at 4% as per Government of India guidelines, and are not additional to the 84. Depending on institutional requirement, the authorities may increase or decrease the number of seats, and that decision is final.

A useful note for EWS applicants. If suitable EWS candidates are not found, those posts are not carried forward as backlog. Unreserved candidates may apply provisionally against EWS posts and may be considered if no suitable EWS candidate is available. That is an unusual provision and is worth knowing if you are a UR candidate weighing your odds.

Essential Qualification

• MBBS from an institution recognised by the National Medical Commission.
• Completed compulsory rotating internship, with the internship completion certificate and registration under any state medical council.
• Candidates who passed MBBS including internship not earlier than three years before the start date of Junior Residency, that is 24 August 2026, will be considered.
• Candidates who have already done two terms of Junior Residency (Non-Academic) at AIIMS or outside will not be considered.

What Counts as a Junior Residency Term

Read this carefully because the definition is broader than most candidates expect. A term of JR (Non-Academic) is six months, and if a candidate joins and leaves at any time, it is counted as one full term irrespective of the duration actually worked. A doctor who joined a residency and resigned after three weeks has still used a term.

Further, experience in Army services, Central Health Services, private nursing homes and private practice is treated as equivalent to Junior Residency (Non-Academic). This is the clause that surprises applicants. Time spent in private practice is not neutral here. It counts against your two-term limit.

Each term also requires a separate application, so a candidate applying for a fresh term must submit afresh rather than relying on an earlier registration.

If Your Internship Is Not Yet Complete

Candidates whose compulsory rotating internship will be completed on or before 24 August 2026 are eligible to apply and appear. However, they must produce the original Internship Completion Certificate with one photocopy on the day of the Written Exam or Interview. Failure to produce the original results in disqualification, and the candidate will not be permitted to appear under any circumstances. There is no discretion on this point.

Age Limit and Relaxation

Maximum age is 33 years as on the last date of submission of the application.

Age relaxation is regulated as per DoPT instructions. Importantly, no age relaxation is available to SC, ST or OBC candidates applying against unreserved vacancies. If you are over 33 and applying to a UR seat, the relaxation does not travel with you.

Application Fee

The fee is paid by Demand Draft only, drawn in favour of “AIIMS KALYANI INTERNAL RESOURCES ACCOUNT” payable at Kalyani. There is no online payment gateway for this recruitment, which means you need to visit a bank. Arrange the draft several days before the deadline rather than in the final week.

The fee once remitted is not refunded under any circumstances, and applications without the prescribed fee are summarily rejected. A scanned copy of the demand draft is uploaded during online registration, and the physical draft is carried on the day of the exam.

Pay Scale

The post carries Rs. 15,600 to 39,100 with Grade Pay 5,400 under the Sixth CPC, corresponding to Level 10 of the Pay Matrix of the Seventh Pay Commission, plus Non-Practising Allowance for medical graduates. With NPA and applicable allowances, this places Junior Resident earnings at AIIMS Kalyani in line with other central institutes at the same level.

Selection Process

The process is a single-day event with a clear sequence, and it runs in a specific order that candidates should plan for.

1. Reporting and document verification. Based on reporting, applications and requisite documents are verified before the exam. Only candidates found eligible after verification are permitted to appear.
2. Written Examination on 8 September 2026 (tentative), in the Examination Hall, Ground Floor, Auditorium Building, AIIMS Kalyani.
3. Personal Interview of candidates who qualify the written examination. The interview date will be intimated in due course.

Certificate Validity Dates

• The OBC-NCL certificate must be issued on or after 1 April 2026, and not later than the last date of submission.
• The EWS certificate must be issued on or after 1 April 2026, and not later than the last date of submission.
• The caste certificate must be valid for administration or employment in Central Government institutions and issued before the date of interview, failing which the candidate cannot appear in that category. Such a candidate may still be treated as UR if in merit.
• The PwBD disability certificate must be signed by a duly constituted and authorised Medical Board of a State or Central Government hospital or institution and countersigned by the Medical Superintendent, CMO or Head of the Institution.

Documents to Bring in Original

Carry originals along with one set of self-attested photocopies. The notification asks for two sets in the annexed application form, so prepare two to be safe.

• Reservation category certificate, with OBC candidates required to belong to the non-creamy layer of the Central List
• No Objection Certificate for candidates working in Government, Semi-Government or PSU, who must also apply through proper channel. In-service candidates will not be permitted for the interview without it, and on selection must submit a Relieve Order

How to Register

1. Open the registration link and complete the online form before 24 August 2026, 5:00 PM. Registration is mandatory, and no candidate is allowed to appear without prior registration.
2. Upload all the mandatory documents listed above, including the scanned demand draft.
3. Provide an email ID and mobile number in regular use. Accepted and rejected application status is posted on the website regularly, and communication is attempted by email, though the institute is not responsible for non-receipt.
4. Download and fill the application form annexed to the advertisement. This is a separate paper form and is submitted on the day of the exam, not during online registration.
5. On exam day, bring the demand draft, the filled application form, and originals with self-attested photocopies.

Candidates are informed in due course about name inclusion, the document verification schedule and the interview date, based on their registration. If the exam date changes, the revised date is communicated only to registered candidates through the AIIMS Kalyani website.

Terms and Conditions

• The appointment is purely on tenure basis, initially for six months only, and vests no right to regular appointment or permanent absorption.
• The engagement automatically expires on completion of six months and can be terminated by the Institute at any time. The employee may leave by giving one month’s notice or salary in lieu.
• A candidate who resigns before completing the tenure must give one month’s notice, or deposit pay and allowances for the shortfall period.
• The appointment is whole time and private practice of any kind is prohibited.
• The appointee will work in shifts and may be posted on rotation anywhere in the Institute, including Trauma and Emergency Medicine.
• No travelling or other allowance is paid for joining the post.
• If selected, you must join within 30 days of the issue of the Offer of Appointment. No joining extension is considered.
• The candidate must not have been convicted by any court of law. Canvassing in any form disqualifies the candidate.
• The Executive Director reserves the right to cancel the advertisement at any time without prior notice, or to fill fewer posts than advertised.
