| Level | Minimum Total Experience | Minimum Super Critical (660 MW+) |

Additional Criteria by Employer Background
Government or CPSE candidates must have been in the equivalent IDA pay scale for at least the last four years — ₹1,20,000–3%–2,80,000 for E8(a), and ₹60,000–3%–1,80,000 or equivalent for E4 and E2.
Private sector candidates face a double test: CTC of not less than ₹27 lakh per annum for E8(a) or ₹13.62 lakh per annum for E4/E2, and current employment with an organisation whose average audited annual turnover over the last three financial years is ₹2,500 crore or more. A strong CV at a smaller firm will not clear this bar.

The upper limit including all relaxations cannot exceed 55 years. Internal SJVN applicants have no upper age bar.

Selection Process
- Scrutiny of applications against the job specifications.
- A screening test may be conducted if SJVN needs to limit interview numbers. If held, it is purely qualifying — 50% for UR/EWS/ESM, 40% for other reserved categories — and carries no weight in the final merit.
- Document verification of shortlisted candidates.
- Personal Interview, which decides everything. Final merit is based purely on interview marks. Qualifying marks are 50% for UR/EWS/ESM and 40% for SC/ST/PwBD/OBC-NCL.
Candidates may take the interview in Hindi or English. Those with experience beyond the prescribed minimum may receive service weightage from the Selection Committee. Interview candidates are reimbursed second-class AC sleeper rail or bus fare by the shortest route.
