PNB LBO Recruitment 2026: 545 Local Bank Officer Posts, Apply Online by 9 August

Punjab National Bank has opened applications for 545 Local Bank Officer (LBO) posts in Junior Management Grade Scale-I. Unlike a standard all-India bank officer recruitment, this one is state-locked: you pick one state, you must be able to read, write and speak that state’s language, and if selected you stay posted in that state for nine years. The application window closes on 9 August 2026.

Your graduation result must have been declared on or before 9 August 2026. Exam date, centre and venue will be printed on the call letter, which is downloaded from the bank’s website closer to the test.

State-Wise Vacancies and Mandatory Language

All 545 posts are split across 17 states and union territories. Each state has a compulsory language attached to it, and you may apply for one state only — submitting an application for one state makes you ineligible for every other state, so choose carefully before you pay the fee.

Two points worth noting on the numbers. Assam and West Bengal carry the largest share, but the language test applies there just as strictly as anywhere else — a high vacancy count is no help if you cannot clear the proficiency requirement. And if your category has no reserved seat in a particular state, you may still apply against that state’s Unreserved seats provided you meet UR eligibility. Merit lists are drawn separately for each state and each category.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

A graduate degree in any discipline from a University or Institution recognised or approved by the Government of India or its regulatory bodies. You need a valid mark sheet or degree certificate in hand on the day you register, and you must enter your graduation percentage to two decimals. CGPA has to be converted using your university’s official formula, and fractions are not rounded up — 59.99% counts as below 60%.

Work Experience

This is the requirement most candidates miss. You need at least one year of post-qualification experience in a Clerical or Officer cadre role at a Scheduled Commercial Bank or Regional Rural Bank listed in the Second Schedule of the RBI Act, 1934. Fresh graduates with no banking service are not eligible for this recruitment.

Experience has to be certified by your previous employer in the bank’s prescribed format. Time spent at other financial institutions will not count unless the job profile closely matches that of a PNB Scale-I Generalist Officer. Officers with prior service in scheduled commercial banks can earn one advance increment per completed year, capped at two; candidates from bank subsidiaries get a maximum of one. Prior service does not carry over for seniority purposes.

Language Proficiency

You must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking the language listed against your chosen state. If you studied that language as a subject in Class 10 or Class 12, you are exempt from the test but will need documentary proof at verification. Everyone else sits a Local Language Proficiency Test conducted by an external agency.

Age Limit and Relaxation

20 to 30 years as on 1 July 2026. The upper limit applies to UR and EWS candidates, with relaxation as follows:

SC/ST/OBC relaxation can be combined with only one of the remaining three. Certificates must be produced at the interview stage.

Nationality

Indian citizens, subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, Tibetan refugees who arrived before 1 January 1962, and persons of Indian origin who migrated from certain listed countries intending to settle permanently in India. The last three groups need an eligibility certificate issued by the Government of India before the notification date.

Application Fee

Payment is online only — debit card, credit card, net banking, IMPS, wallets or UPI. Transaction charges are yours to bear, and the fee is non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another exam.

Selection Process

Four stages, in this order:

1. Online Written Test
2. Screening — the bank scrutinises the applications and documents of everyone who clears the test to confirm eligibility before calling them further
3. Local Language Proficiency Test, where applicable
4. Personal Interview

Written Test Pattern

Sections are individually timed. A quarter of the marks allotted to a question is deducted for a wrong answer. Sectional qualifying marks are 40% for General and EWS candidates and 35% for reserved categories, which the bank may revise at its discretion.

Language Test and Interview

The LLPT is purely qualifying, but it is decisive: fail it and you are out of the final selection regardless of how well you performed in the written test or interview.

The interview carries 50 marks. SC/ST candidates need 45% (22.50 marks) and everyone else needs 50% (25 marks) to stay in contention. Final merit is calculated from the written test and interview combined, subject to clearing the LLPT. Where two candidates tie, the older one ranks higher.

Salary and Service Conditions

The JMGS-I pay scale is ₹48,480 – 2000/7 – 62,480 – 2340/2 – 67,160 – 2680/7 – 85,920. On top of basic pay you get DA, CCA, HRA or leased accommodation, leave fare concession, medical insurance, retirement benefits and other perks as per bank rules.

Before you commit, read the service conditions carefully:

• Two-year probation from the date of joining.
• State lock-in. After induction training you are deployed within the circles of your chosen state, and you stay there until you complete nine years of service or reach SMG Scale IV, whichever comes first.
• Indemnity bond. You sign an undertaking to serve at least three years. Leaving earlier costs ₹2,00,000.
• CIBIL score of 680 or above is required at the time of joining. It is not a condition for applying, and candidates without a bank account are not asked for CIBIL status.
• A valid Aadhaar card is mandatory; the bank may verify it at several stages.
• Anyone previously discharged from PNB or its merged entities for reasons other than VRS or resignation is not eligible, and neither is anyone with adverse reports on character or antecedents.
• Ex-Servicemen get age relaxation but no reservation, since this is direct recruitment to officer cadre.
• No travel allowance for the online test or LLPT. Unemployed SC/ST candidates called for interview are reimbursed second-class rail or ordinary bus fare.

How to Apply

1. Go to the PNB careers page at pnb.bank.in or open the direct application link.
2. Click the new registration option and enter your basic details to generate a provisional registration number and password, which also arrive by email and SMS.
3. Log back in with those credentials and fill the full application form.
4. Upload your photograph, signature, left-hand thumb impression and handwritten declaration to the prescribed specifications, plus your certificate PDFs.
5. Use Save and Next to review everything. Once you click Complete Registration, nothing can be changed.
6. Pay the fee online and save the e-receipt.
7. Print the submitted form and receipt for your own records. Do not post anything to the bank.

Upload Specifications

The photograph should be a recent passport-style colour picture against a light background, with no cap or dark glasses; religious headwear is fine as long as the face is visible. Neither the signature nor the declaration may be written in capital letters. You will also be asked to capture a live photo via webcam or phone during registration.

Documents to Carry to the Interview

Originals plus one self-attested photocopy of each:

• Interview call letter and the system-generated printout of your online application
• Date of birth proof — birth certificate or Class X certificate showing DOB
• Photo identity and address proof
• All semester or year-wise mark sheets and the final degree certificate, with proof that the result was declared on or before 9 August 2026
• Experience certificate in the prescribed format, with appointment letter, salary slips and relieving letter
• Caste certificate (SC/ST/OBC) in the prescribed format, matching the Central Government list exactly
• Income and asset certificate for EWS candidates
• Disability certificate from the District Medical Board for PwBD candidates
• Discharge certificate, service book and pension payment order for Ex-Servicemen
• No Objection Certificate if you are currently serving in a Government body, PSU or financial institution
